Tony Fadell is a Happy Guy. He’s 25 years old. He designs cutting-edge personal communications devices for hot-shot General Magic in Sunnyvale, California. He probably makes six figures, easy. His work week is down from a peak of 110 hours to a manageable 50 or so. He even has a cutesy job title – Silicon Sorcerer – and a cocky conviction that he’s rewiring the planet. "My goal was to be financially independent by the time I was 30," Fadell says. "I’m well on my way."
Call him smart. Call him lucky. Even call him arrogant. But the University of Michigan graduate is a shining example of someone who has found a well-paying niche in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the American economy. We should all be so fortunate. And if we play our cards right in the next decade, we can be.
